The Essence and the Opportunity

The Colwell Brothers and Herb Allen are making themselves available to visit your city and others with their special A Song for the World Performance and to spend time with you and your friends. They have two objectives:

  • To bring attention to A Song for the World, the recently published book about their global adventures and the musical founding of Up with People.
  • To reconnect with Up with People alumni, to visit, and in public or semi-public events, possibly perform together - fun for all!

Alumni interest and support will determine the cities visited. The program can vary from city to city. In the Los Angeles area, for example, a public show in the Pasadena Playhouse included performances by the SoCal alumni chapter and a local high school song and dance class, then a dinner reception with alumni and friends. In Santa Barbara, Borders bookstore was the venue. For Seattle (Sept. ‘07), plans include a public show, bookstore presentations, and a wine and cheese concert/reception for alumni and friends.

For these events the Colwells receive no compensation, and their travel and expenses need to be covered by sponsors and/or gate receipts. In-kind alumni contributions of time and talent are an important part of that support.

On this website we’ve made information available with just about everything needed to arrange a visit, including details about instruments and sound requirements, which will of course depend on the venues. The events to date have been exciting for alumni, friends, and families, and a “buzz” of interest has been created in cities across the country.

Should your city be included? The links under Planning will show you what’s been done to date and resources available to you now. It’s probably no exaggeration to say that having these four music icons make an appearance in your city is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. As time is always of the essence, we look forward to hearing from you soon.
